Crash Test Summary for Dog Transit Cage

Investigation of the crash worthiness of the TransK9 Dog Cage

UWS-Logo

Introduction

The analysis was carried out using finite element analysis to simulate the behaviour of a rear impact, front impact with a motor vehicle. A drop test of the cage onto its corner was also investigated.

The rear impact represents a collision with a 1000kg and a 2000kg vehicle with impact speeds of 30km/hr and 45km/hr respectively.

The front impact represents a collision at 30km/hr and 45km/hr.

The drop test represented the cage being dropped onto its corner from a height of 1.5m above ground level.

Observations

The deflections involved during the impact were small compared to the overall geometry of the dog cage.

The permanent deformation experienced post impact were very small.

No components failed during impact.

No sharp edges or protrusions were created during the impact or post impact.

Post impact presented no compromise to front doors or to rear escape door operations.

The dog cage is an extremely strong structure that is representative of a monocoque structure as used in Formula 1 Racing chassis’. This type of structure is excellent in providing high rigidity thus providing high protection for the occupants.

The dog cage investigated is one of the larger models in the TransK9 range. Smaller boxes will be stiffer and will experience smaller deflections, providing similar protection.

The divider of this cage was not fitted presenting a worst case scenario. With the divider fitted, the cage will be significantly stiffer with resulting deformations being considerably reduced.

This is a summary of the full Crash test report.
